UPCOMING PARK LEVY ON

THE NOVEMBER BALLOT

This year Columbia Valley Park and Recreation District is on the general election ballot under Proposition 2024-23 which calls for a 6-year levy that would cost the average homeowner in Columbia Valley about the same as 6 cups of coffee per year. This levy would fund the purchase of park properties within the Columbia Valley UGA, one of which would be a walk of 10 minutes or less from your front door.

Help improve the quality of life for yourself, your family and the entire community by VOTING YES ON PROP 2024-23!

Columbia Valley Park and Recreation District (CVPRD) has been approved for placement on the November 2024 General Election Ballot to establish a six (6) year regular property levy rate for CVPRD. The park district currently has no funding so Proposition No.1 will allow the CVPRD to establish the levy rate at $0.44 or less per $1,000.00 of assessed valuation (approximately $30/annum/household) for a six (6) year period as otherwise authorized by law. Voter approval of Proposition No. 1 will provide capital funds for the CVPRD to purchase, construct and maintain up to four (4) more properties within the Columbia Valley Urban Growth Area (UGA) as outlined in our Comprehensive Plan.

With the purchase of our first park property, Creekside Park, at 7916 Santa Fe Trail in 2023, we have begun fulfilling our mission to provide five parks within easy walking distance of all homes in the UGA.

The Columbia Valley is an area of outstanding natural beauty in the foothills of the North Cascade Mountains in East Whatcom County. The valley is surrounded by mountains, which contributes to its charming and isolated nature. Parks and recreational spaces are vital to the quality of life and sense of place for Columbia Valley residents.

Parks and recreational areas within our community will provide easily accessed designated spaces within a 10 minute walk from any home where community members can engage with the natural environment alone or with their friends and families, connect with neighbors and develop stronger ties to the community.

The CVPRD encompasses the Urban Growth Area in this map below and serves the Columbia Valley population. This park district is a local government body with commissioners elected from the community and by the community. Commissioners serve in volunteer capacity to help improve the quality of life for everyone in the Columbia Valley UGA.

Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6.30 pm at 8251 Kendall Rd, Maple Falls, Rm 3.
